Mental illnesses and substance use disorders are real medical issues and are very common.

Mental illnesses are often hard to distinguish every-day stresses and strains, from the occasional “blues.” While sometimes the onset of these illnesses is sudden, they often emerge over a long period of time. 

How do I know if I or someone I know needs help?

If any of the following are significantly disrupting your life or the life of someone you know, call us for a consultation:

  • Anxiety
  • Irritability
  • Sadness
  • Loss of energy or motivation
  • Bizarre or unusual thinking
  • Hallucinations
  • Significant changes of mood – marked depression, anxiety, or elevation in mood
  • Restless, agitated and disorganized behavior, or marked decrease in activity
  • Significant impairment of social and/or occupational functioning
  • Significant impairment in self-care
  • Suicidal thoughts or acts of self-harm
  • Destructive or high-risk behavior
  • Confusion and disorientation
  • Have you ever felt you should reduce your drinking or drug use?
  • Do people who care about you comment against your drinking or drug use?
  • Have you ever felt bad or guilty about your drinking or drug use?
  • Have you ever had a drink or used drugs first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover?
